Rookie Selects Lose 10-9 and Have Group Hug
2014-09-04The Hawks won a game and lost 2, the 2nd in dramatic fashion at SOBA's
NEWMARKET - The Hawks had an interesting run at the SOBA Provinicial Championships on the weekend, winning by 16, losing by 16, and then losing by 1 in the bottom of the 7th to end the season. The Halton Hills Eagles walked off 10-9 winners, leaving the Hawks in a gigantic teary group-hug on the infield.
"That was probably the toughest post-game talk I've ever had to come up with...I mean, seriously, half the kids are in tears, which makes me teary, which makes some of them more teary, and then the other ones get teary...what a mess. It was like watching Field of Dreams surrounded by pictures of your dead dog listening to bagpipes play Amazing Grace," Coach Tim opined afterwards. "But, you couldn't really come up with a better ending. It was a great game. Better than getting trounced by one of the Toronto teams the next morning."
The Hawks finished the year as YSBA Rookie Champions, going a combined 20 and 0 against teams in their league. Minor Mosquito tryouts start on September 13th. Good seats are still available. :)
